About Coverling

Coverling helps organizations fill open shifts from the people they already trust. An organization brings its own roster, posts an Open Shift when someone calls out, and offers it to people who can step in.

Why Coverling exists

When someone calls out, teams often cover the absence with phone trees, group texts, and spreadsheets. That means slow fills, shifts left uncovered, records that go stale, and hours keyed into payroll twice.

Coverling replaces the scramble with one calm system of record behind every absence: who was asked, who covered, and which hours were approved. The idea is simple — coverage, covered: the problem solved before it becomes a crisis.

What Coverling does — and what it doesn’t

Coordinators post an absence as an Open Shift with its location, times, shift details, and preparation notes. Coverling offers it to the organization’s Bench — its go-to people — first, then widens to the rest of the roster, skipping anyone unavailable, excluded from that location, already booked, or missing a required skill. Confirmed hours flow into an approved timekeeping export that the organization’s existing payroll system imports.

Today, Coverling:

  • Does not screen anyone. Organizations screen their own workers and attest to eligibility; Coverling records who attested, when, and for which locations. In-system screening is planned for a later phase.
  • Is not an open marketplace. Only people an organization has added or approved can receive or accept its shifts, and no organization can see another organization’s people.
  • Moves no money. Workers stay the organization’s employees, on its payroll. Coverling is not a staffing agency: it replaces the phone tree, not the employment relationship.
  • Holds only what scheduling needs. Coverling holds no background-check results, government IDs, or screening documents.

How Coverling is built

Fast where it counts
Posting a shift and accepting one have to be quick and clear for coordinators and workers, whether they are at a desk or on a phone. That coverage loop guides the product.
One honest record
Absences, assignments, hours, and approvals live in the same record, so the payroll export matches what actually happened at each location.
Only the data scheduling needs
Worker records hold what scheduling needs: contact details, home location, the organization’s own worker ID, and the skills and availability used for matching. Personal information stays in the encrypted operational store, scoped to the organization, and never rides along in analytics.
Changes in the open
Every shipped change is dated in the changelog, with an RSS feed for anyone who wants to follow along.

Designed for multiple industries

Coverling is designed to support organizations across multiple industries, using their own people, locations, and staffing requirements. Support for additional industries is in development, and availability will expand over time.

That is also what the name and the mark mean. A Coverling is the person who steps in. The “C” mark is an open ring — a gap — completed by a coral piece stepping in to fill it, and a gap is a gap in any industry.

Where Coverling is today

Coverling was founded in 2026 and is available to a limited set of pilot organizations. Teams can join the early-access list on the home page to hear when Coverling is available for them. Workspace access requires onboarding and authentication, and organizations add or approve the workers who can receive their shifts.
